EatSmart fans will continue to select a Charity of the Month in 2015. Fans will submit short stories about the charity’s mission and why it’s meaningful to them. We began our Charity of the Month donations in 2011. About the Northwest Alabama Spay And Neuter Assistance: The Northwest Alabama Spay and Neuter Assistance mission is to help reduce the overpopulation of dogs and cats by providing spay and neuter assistance for pets of families living in Northwest Alabama. Right now, they limit the number to 2 per year for each family and require proof of eligibility and a $20 copay for each animal. The specific objectives and purposes of this organization include: (a) To help reduce the overpopulation of dogs and cats in Lauderdale, Colbert and Franklin counties in Northwest Alabama by providing spay and neuter assistance to residents of those counties who qualify for approved Government assistance programs. (b) To apply for grants from Government entities and private foundations/organizations to fund the spay and neuter program. (c) To support the efforts of the program through various fundraising activities and requests for donations from private individuals and businesses. (d) To educate the public on the importance of preventing unwanted births of dogs and cats and thus reducing the number of animals that end up being left in shelters or to fend for themselves and losing their lives needlessly. (e) To engage in other activities as necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the corporation. Click here to visit their Facebook page.
